January 2022, Donbas. In a small village caught between the front lines, only two residents remain: Serhii and Pashka, retired miners who have argued with each other since childhood. There is no electricity, supplies are scarce, and shelling is never far away. Still, neither man wants to leave the place he calls home.
Their days pass with small chores, cups of tea and familiar disagreements. They see the war, and their own lives, very differently, but with everyone else gone, they have little choice but to rely on one another. Then a Russian sniper arrives in the village, threatening the fragile routine they have managed to build.
Based on the novel by Andrey Kurkov, GREY BEES is a quiet, sometimes dryly funny drama about two men trying to live ordinary lives in a place where ordinary life has almost disappeared. Director Dmytro Moiseiev pays close attention to the little things that matter when so much has been lost: a warm room, a conversation, the stubborn wish to stay at home.
